In video: from Montreal to Quebec aboard the 2023 Toyota bZ4X

On a visit to the Salut Bonjour program, the chronicler of the Car guide Antoine Joubert recounted his journey from Montreal to Quebec aboard the 2023 Toyota bZ4X, which was not easy.

But first, Antoine described the purpose of Toyota’s new 100% electric SUV. “It’s called a compliance vehicle. It took an electric vehicle from Toyota,” explains Antoine. He goes on to mention that the car was jointly developed with Subaru which launched the Solterra alongside it.

“We’re not reinventing the wheel, we’re sticking to what the [concurrence] right now and we’re directly in the crosshairs of a Hyundai IONIQ 5 or a Kia EV6,” he says. In addition, the autonomy of the two-wheel drive version is 406 kilometers, while that of the all-wheel drive version is 367 km.

And the journey?

Last weekend — due to strong winds — many Quebec homes lost their power supply, which was the case for our columnist. Unfortunately, this prevented him from recharging the bZ4X before making his trip from the north shore of Montreal to Quebec.

Antoine had to make two stops to recharge the battery to have enough autonomy. “I’m leaving (from the first stop, editor’s note) and I realize that [l’autonomie] drop a lot faster than expected, so that when I got to Donnacona, I realized that I wouldn’t have enough, ”says the columnist.

This is how Antoine charges the bZ4X for a second time using a 50 kW terminal. Finally arrived at destination, the dashboard showed that there were only 2 kilometers of autonomy left.
