In video: Antoine Joubert presents the Ford F-150 Lightning

On a visit to the Salut Bonjour program, the chronicler of the Car Guide Antoine Joubert presents the Ford F-150 Lightning.

The all-electric pickup truck will compete with future General Motors products — the Chevrolet Silverado EV and GMC Sierra EV — as well as Stellantis’ Ram Revolution. “It’s a vehicle that will meet the needs of many people,” says Antoine.

The Lightning is sold in four distinct versions: Pro, XLT, LARIAT and Platinum. Note: the Pro version is only available to businesses in the Canadian market.

“We have only one body configuration at the moment: that is to say a SuperCrew cab — crew — with a 5.5-foot bed. You can’t have a utility truck with a longer box,” notes the columnist.

More than 500 km of autonomy

Two battery choices are available to the consumer, either 98 or 131 kWh. Depending on the version selected, the range varies between 370 and 515 kilometres. That said, the van includes “Vehicle-to-Load” — or two-way charging — which can power accessories or even appliances in your home during a power outage.

Moreover, since there is no engine in the front, the compartment has a volume of 400 liters and a capacity of 400 lbs. “It’s one of the innovations that I find very interesting because the trunk has been maximized in relation to its volume, which makes it a very practical truck,” underlines Antoine.

And towing?

The Lightning can tow up to 10,000 lbs (4,536 kg) — with XLT and LARIAT models equipped with the Big Battery and Tow Package. “I towed 6,600 lbs. […] I managed to cover 200 kilometers driving this vehicle”. Antoine specifies that he had 25 kilometers of autonomy left at the end of his test.
