On a visit to the Salut Bonjour program, the chronicler of the Car guide Antoine Joubert presented BMW’s first 100% electric SUV, the 2022 iX.
” [BMW] arrives with a large mid-size SUV that squarely competes with Tesla’s Model X,” explains Antoine. Other players include the Audi e-tron, Jaguar I-PACE, and more will be added over time.
BMW’s electric SUV is powered by a 106.3 kWh battery. The calculated autonomy varies between 491 and 521 kilometers depending on the rims chosen for the xDrive50 version. ” [Il] offers a very interesting real autonomy”, rejoices Antoine. He mentions that the iX can travel between 400 and 425 kilometers in winter conditions.
In terms of recharging, it will take 12 hours to completely refuel the battery using a level 2 terminal. BMW announces a boost of 100 kilometers in 21 minutes with a 50 kW fast terminal.
In addition, the entry-level xDrive40 model offers an estimated range of 322 km, while this value rises to 450 for the future M60.
On board, the driver is served by a huge curved screen which includes the 12.3-inch instrumentation and the 14.9-inch multimedia system. It offers a “very beautiful definition”, according to Antoine.
“Driving-wise, that’s where the vehicle stands out because I don’t think I’ve driven an electric vehicle quieter than this one. You don’t hear a thing,” he exclaims. In addition, the version under test was equipped with the option of four directional wheels, which reduces the turning circle and facilitates maneuvers in town.
