In Valencia, the Food Bank is creating a vegetable garden to offer fruit and vegetables to the most disadvantaged

Collecting fresh vegetables and fruits, a difficult mission for the Food Bank. However, it is one of most important needs for beneficiaries who cannot afford these expensive products in sufficient quantity. “It’s very difficult to get because the supermarkets are doing more and more promotions. We can have it the same day or two days in advance maximum”, explains Jean-Pierre Will be finishedpresident of the Food Bank Ardeche-Drome.

The establishment has taken the lead in solving the problem by creating its own vegetable garden. Thanks to land lent by the town hall, financial aid from the State and the motivation to several volunteers, the first harvest has just begun. “We grew, we were patient, it was hard work at times, but it is rewarding to be able to distribute these very good products now.”, explains Louise Buchaillaudmarket gardener in charge of plantations.

Strawberries, salads, courgettes, spinach… total, these are more of 15,000 people who will be able to benefit from the production of the vegetable garden. The food will be distributed to 80 associations across the department. A project which also aims to discover the actions carried out by the network of Food Banks, always looking for support and volunteers to help the most disadvantaged.
