It is midday prayer time in Tyre. Oddly, there are no traffic jams in this city in southern Lebanon, located about twenty kilometers from the border with Israel. Traffic is flowing smoothly. At the Imam Moussa Sadr Foundation, a teaching and research center, activity has been reduced since the explosions of Hezbollah’s transmission devices, which now leave 37 dead and 3,539 injured.

Students and teachers have not come to class because they received messages on their cell phones informing them of an imminent ground invasion by the Israeli army. No one knows where these text messages came from.

The atmosphere is heavy, notes the director of the Foundation. “Especially yesterday and today, the whole community is traumatized because this is a new and creative way of killing.says Mohammed Bassam. I don’t understand how you can be creative in killing people. There is no distinction between military and civilians. I don’t know where this is going to lead us.”

To further frighten the population, Israeli fighter bombers broke the sound barrier, causing thunderclaps in the skies over Tyre.
