At the end of a match between the Ankara and Rize clubs, the president of the Ankara club attacked the referee of the match. He was taken into custody on Tuesday December 12.
The meeting was tense between the Turkish football clubs of Ankara and Rize, with a red card on each side. At the final whistle of the match, the president of the Ankara club does not accept the equalizer in added time. He goes down to the pitch and violently hits the referee, giving him a brutal punch on the cheek. The referee collapses and curls up into a ball to protect himself from kicks delivered by other club executives. With a swollen face, the 37-year-old referee leaves protected by the police.
The referee suffers a slight head trauma
The Turkish football federation reacted immediately. “We have decided to suspend all matches, in all leagues until further notice”, indicates Mehmet Büyükeksi, president of the federation. The aggression was also denounced by the Turkish president. The referee suffered a slight head trauma. Three attackers, including the president of the club, were taken into custody on Tuesday morning, December 12.
