in Troyes, the medical center provides training for young doctors to encourage them to stay

This is an innovative initiative to fight against medical deserts that was born in Troyes. On September 2, the Minister of Health François Braun inaugurated a new kind of medical center: it has the particularity of bringing together several health professionals, welcoming interns and soon offering courses in connection with the faculty of medicine.

This major asset will allow students to follow their courses on site while doing their internship in the same structure. They can even be accommodated in this former clinic. According to one of the general practitioners at the health center, Philippe Ithié, this initiative could encourage future doctors to stay in Troyes.

“The difficulty for interns is that they are settling into their adult life. They are no longer young people, they are people who may already have children, families, etc.”

“Being able to stay in a place of territory is also something that can facilitate their future choices.” This idea interests Radi Konaré: this student is doing her internship in this medical house, with Doctor Ithié. “It allows us to have more ground to be able to do our internshipsshe says. At the level of the trainers, if they come to give lessons here, I think that we will no longer need to travel to Reims to do the lessons.

Normally, interns do their internship in Troyes and continue their studies at the medical school in Reims. By having the opportunity to do both in Troyes, they are winners. The initiator of the project, Doctor Didier Bréjot, is also thinking about the training of doctors who already practice in Troyes. “It provides training in connection with the faculty without them having to go to Reims every four morningshe explains. So it saves transport, and facilitates training.”

“The interest is that we still have a lot of liberal and hospital doctors, specialists, who can come and do training directly here, in an amphitheater with a privileged welcome.”

For the moment, the university medical house of Troyes has only one internship supervisor, but to start the courses, it would need a lecturer. This medical house could become a vital issue in a department where there are half as many general practitioners as on average throughout France.
