Mint-green scooters everywhere in the streets of Toulouse. For 10 days, you may have come across these Vespa-like two-wheelers. It is electric scooters offered for hire by the company Yego, already established in Paris, Bordeaux, Barcelona, Malaga or Seville. For the moment, there are 160 in Toulousebut Yego hopes to implement 300 by the end of August.
A quarter-turn start
Yego’s activity got off to a good start in the Pink City with 6,000 rentals in 10 days (about a third more than forecast). The rental service works without subscription and costs 29 euro cents per minute. You must be of legal age and have a driving license to be able to rent one. The scooters have 50km range and customers can drop off anywhere in Toulouse, but only in parking spaces reserved for two-wheelers and carsnot on sidewalks.
There are no charging stations, Yego takes care of this task. Kevin Bournat is the manager of the Toulouse branch of Yego: “We have an internal application that allows us to detect scooters that have run out of battery. So the teams can go and put full batteries back in our scooters in town. We are doing a rotation. Toulouse is the fourth largest city in France A service like ours has its place, because the city is congested, there is an old historic center with small streets, many one-way streets and by car, it is very complicated. electric scooters therefore has its place, precisely to deal with all that.”
Yego will soon have competition in Toulouse: Felyx, another electric scooter rental company, will roll out a fleet of 300 vehicles starting this fall.
