We knew the media libraries, the toy libraries or the art libraries here is a brand new concept that has just emerged on the rental market in Toulouse: “My Library of Objects”.
Created at the instigation of Marie Boillot and Fabien Estivals, this association connects members for an equipment loan service at a lower cost. “It starts at two euros for the stapler up to fifteen euros a week for the drill driver”, explains Fabien Estivals, co-founder of “My Library of Objects”.
In the current context of environmental protection, the concept is a perfect example of a virtuous circular economy since all these items serve different households.
A sustainable solution to consume differently and more ecologically. Instead of investing in new equipment that we use little, we come here to borrow a device. And it works ! In the catalog and on the shelves of “My Library of Objects” nearly 250 second-hand or new products are already referenced. Part of the stock has been entrusted to the association by individuals or companies wishing to support the project, while freeing up their garages and shelves.
To make rental even easier and more accessible to Toulouse residents, the two thirty-year-olds deliver items to five pick-up points scattered throughout the pink city. On the handlebars of her cargo bike loaded with the order of the day, Marie arrives at the MJC Roguet. “We are interested in three things: the geographical coverage of the territory, the diversity audiences and schedules compatible with today’s uses, so evenings and Saturdays”, she explains.
The little extra of the association is also the transmission of knowledge. Fabien and Marie will soon set up training workshops to teach members how to repair a broken object. DIY cafes to exchange, have fun but also to become more responsible. According to a study carried out by the Society and Consumption Observatory, in the face of rising prices and in order to preserve the planet, 80% of French people say they favor use over ownership.
