In this municipality, pigeons are killed by wringing their necks

A French municipality in Loire-Atlantique pinned down by an animal protection association has decided to stop killing unwanted pigeons by wringing their necks.

In Saint-Herblain, near Nantes, the town hall finally announced that it would put an end to the practice of “neck twisting” of pigeons, according to what the media “20 Minutes” reported on Thursday.

The practice deemed particularly cruel was denounced by associations, notably Paris Animals Zoopolis (PAZ) which has made a lot of noise around this affair in recent days.

The organization said it was stunned by “the shocking killing” used by the company supplying the municipal administration of Saint-Herblain for the elimination of birds.

The company in question captured more than 300 pigeons in two large aviaries and then twisted their necks, prompting PAZ’s blood attack, said the local media.

According to the town hall, these captures stopped three months ago and caused “personnel accidents in the exterior stairwells of the town hall, linked to pigeon droppings”.
