For three weeks in May, David Gaudu and his close guard from Groupama-FDJ rubbed shoulders with the Teide volcano on the Spanish island of Tenerife, with the aim of maximizing the Breton’s chances of shining on the Grande Boucle, which is Élance, Saturday July 1st, from Bilbao.

On the program, 1,600 kilometers but above all 38,000 meters of elevation gain. The idea is to prepare runners’ bodies for high altitude by staying on the mountainside. “It’s very important to come here because we have a perfect playground, excellent conditions. I’ve never worked as well on the bike as here”, explains the fourth in the 2022 Tour, who is aiming for a podium in Paris this time behind the two top names, Jonas Vingegaard and Tadej Pogacar. Little to his advantage over the last Dauphiné, the Frenchman, who will be supported by Thibaut Pinot for whom this will be the last Tour de France, must now show all the benefits of this trip to the Canaries.
