As the drought spreads a little more in the country every day, some municipalities have taken drastic measures. In the Var, in the town of Bagnols-en-Forêt, like other surrounding towns, residents are only entitled to 200 liters per day and per household.

For this resident of Bagnols-en-Forêt (Var), water is now drunk in a bottle, due to the restrictions affecting the town. Prohibition to consume more than 200 liters per day and per household. “We are not going to waste the water for nothing at all, let the water run as we usually do… Sometimes we let it run, but here we are a little more careful anyway”, he concedes. Impossible also to fill his swimming pool, of course, or even to water his garden.

In the region, drought is reaching record levels. The rainfall deficit is 70% in places. “It’s worrying. When you see the lakes […]which are really very, very low… We’ve never seen that”, adds this inhabitant. This unprecedented situation also affects traders. A restaurateur in the town must limit its water consumption by half compared to last year. “The diver must be careful not to use too much water, and what we do the most is go to the toilet, because customers leave the taps open”he testifies.
