“We voted against” the bilateral security agreement concluded between France and Ukraine “in the National Assembly, we will vote against in the Senate”, indicates, Wednesday March 13, Léon Deffontaines, head of the list of the French Communist Party (PCF) in the European elections on France Bleu Loire Océan. It is the turn of the upper house to have its debate followed by a consultative vote on the question, Wednesday evening, after the lower house on Tuesday. “This text definitively turns its back on any peaceful outcome to this conflict”he assures.
Among the problems this agreement poses for it, “the questioning of Ukraine’s neutrality status, in particular by posing its integration into NATO”. However, according to him, this status is one of the keys to resolving the conflict. “We must put the ceasefire around the table, of course, but also the neutrality status of Ukraine. Tell Russia that NATO will not advance to its border,” he suggests. According to him, “It would allow Vladimir Putin to be twisted to force him to come to the negotiating table.”
“I don’t want to be part of a sacrificed future generation”
“In any case, we will negotiate one day or another, I don’t want it to happen at the cost of millions of deaths”, he adds. He alludes to the controversial comments of Emmanuel Macron, who has not ruled out sending Western troops on the ground to Ukraine, and does not want to “no limit” in support of kyiv. “I am 27 years old and I do not want to be part of a sacrificed future generation. I do not even want any French soldier to die on the Ukrainian front,” says Léon Deffontaines.
