There’s plenty to smile about these days, as she holds six nominations at Canada’s most prestigious music awards show this weekend, including Entertainer of the Year and single of the year for his song Meaningless.

His other nominations include album of the year as well as pop album of the year for phoenixFans’ Choice and Music Video of the Year for Meaningless.

That puts her ahead of Justin Bieber and The Weeknd, who each have five nominations. On Saturday’s industry show, most of the trophies will be handed out. The televised party for the top categories airs Sunday on CBC.

“I’m still trying to figure it out,” says the singer. It is rare that female artists from Quebec receive so many nominations and can obtain this platform across Canada. »

In 2021, Charlotte Cardin’s first album, entitled phoenixmade her the first Canadian female artist to spend two weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Canadian album chart since famed Quebec diva Celine Dion in September 2016.

“When I was three years old, I tried to sing like Celine Dion, to imitate her,” says the 27-year-old woman. She has truly been my biggest idol throughout my life. So, it’s crazy to see that we have some milestones in common. »

Charlotte Cardin started making her way into the music industry in 2013 after landing in the top four on the Quebec version of the singing competition TV series The voice.

She then abandoned her modeling career, which had served as her salary since the age of 15, and discovered herself thoroughly as an artist.

The Junos, where she was named a Breakthrough Artist four years ago, are sure to introduce her to a whole new audience. Already, most of the stops on his 2022 international tour are sold out.

“It makes me so proud to represent a female project, Quebec, but in English,” she said. It’s something a little taboo and I understand why. »

On Sunday, she will perform at the Junos, which will be broadcast live from the Budweiser stage in Toronto, with actor Simu Liu as host and performers including Arcade Fire, Mustafa and Avril Lavigne.
