On Saturday May 14, Ukraine won the Eurovision Song Contest in Turin (Italy). Placed in fourth place by the jury of professionals, the Ukrainian group was sent to first place thanks to the public vote. Their song, a mixture of folklore and hip hop, set the hearts of Ukrainians on fire. “We really have the support of all of Europe and the whole world. We are not alone, thank you all”assures a Ukrainian woman. “I hope this war will stop”, want another.
John Lennon’s song “Give Peace a Chance” opened the evening on Saturday 14 May. Volodymyr Zelensky, the Ukrainian president, welcomed this victory on social networks. “Next year, Ukraine will host Eurovision”, he said. During the evening, the public also sang “Volare” in chorus. The French finished in 24th place, just ahead of Germany.
