Information revealed by the Russian media Sports Express which first quoted Sergey Anokhin, a member of the executive committee of the Russian Football Federation. An approach that may surprise, as Russian clubs and national teams have been suspended from all international competitions.
The newspaper then explained that it had been confirmed by Alexander Dyukov, president of the RFU, who made the news official on his website. Russia has therefore submitted a declaration of interest to host the continental competition in 2028, and it will also do so for the 2032 edition. Candidates had until Wednesday to declare their willingness to host this event. So far, only the joint candidacy of England and Ireland had been submitted. The Turkish Federation also announced on Wednesday that it had taken steps to organize this tournament. UEFA is due to communicate on the contenders to host its competition on Tuesday 5 April.
