In Afghanistan, middle school and high school girls were to resume classes on Wednesday March 23 for the first time since the Taliban took power. The latter finally ordered the schools to be closed abruptly.

On the morning of Wednesday March 23 in Kabul (Afghanistan), young girls went back to school for the first time in seven months. After a few minutes of class, a teacher interrupted the class, and ordered the students to go home. Throughout the country, young girls had nevertheless prepared for their return to school. “I am very happy, because our country is safe. I am very happy that the schools are reopening for the girls”said Alina, 14, on Monday.

In September 2021, the Taliban had however assured that girls would have access to education. “We are trying, through a new appropriate procedure, to create a safe educational environment for women and girls”Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesman for the Taliban regime, confided on September 21. Seven months later, young Afghan women are still not in school. The international community had made the right to education for all a prerequisite for the recognition of the fundamentalist regime.
