After the bloody attacks by Hamas, some chose to leave their kibbutz, others are still at home, Friday October 20.
Armed farmers guard the entrance to their kibbutzim, less than a kilometer from Gaza. Some fear Hamas incursions. “We neutralized them,” says a farmer who tries to reassure a Thai worker. The farm has 350 dairy cows, milking must be ensured, whatever the danger. At least 15 Thais were killed on the kibbutzim after the Hamas attack.
“We are not heroes”
“We are not heroes, we are farmers, we love life, we did not want to fight, we did not want war”, said a resident. In this area, there is no safe place for kibbutz residents. High school students volunteered to help, since schools are closed anyway. In a kibbutz, the Israeli army is present, but discreet. Even though there are a few Israelis and a few Thais remaining, fear seems to be spreading. The risk is that all the livestock will be abandoned.
