In the context of the war in Ukraine, Westerners are conducting a diplomatic marathon in Brussels, Belgium, on Thursday March 24. They have decided to step up their military aid to Ukraine. France Télévisions followed the French soldiers on a NATO base in Romania.
On the NATO military base of Constanta (Romania)training is increasing. The base is a few kilometers from the Ukrainian border. It is home to soldiers of six different nationalities, who are learning to fight together. In Romania, NATO displays its force, its soldiers and its equipment: hundreds of military vehicles, clearly visible. In the event of an alert, each contingent has its mission. For the French army, it is border protection.
There are several thousand Americans on this base, more than 800 French and Belgians, as well as Italians, Dutch and Romanians. For the colonel who leads the battalion, these forces are strategic in deterring the Russian army from threatening Europe. NATO assists the Ukrainian army and smuggles weapons. Thousands of other soldiers will soon join the base of Constanta.
