Since the earthquake in Turkey and Syria, a few survivors have been found under the rubble. But in some forgotten villages, no relief team has gone since the earthquake. Time just froze there.

Not far from the epicenter of the earthquake, in Turkey, a village ghost of 1,500 inhabitants was abandoned, in ruins. It is down to -20°C at night. In this remote mountainous region of Turkey, many survivors preferred to leave. For those who stayed, some help was slow to arrive. In one of the municipalities in the region, this aid has only been organized for a few days.

“We can’t go anywhere”

Everyone rushes to get some logs. “Without this wood, we would have died of hypothermia”, says a man on the spot. At 1,400 meters above sea level, three farming families camp along the snowy road. “We have animals, we can’t go anywhere. They are sick, they are scared and so are we”, says a man. The roof of their house collapsed. They can no longer live there. So they spend their time outside, with children from 5 to 12 years old. After having slept in their car, they have finally obtained a tent, in which they pile up at twelve.
