Benoît Cohen’s latest film, My France To Meis inspired by the novel Mohammad, my mother and me, published in 2018 by Flammarion editions. It comes out in cinemas on Wednesday December 20. “There are quite a few differences. The problem with the book is that my mother is a wonderful woman, Mohammad is an exceptional guy, me, the son, I am rather a nice person in life, and with that we don’t really make an exciting film”, explains the director in 12/13 info, Monday. He acknowledges having in particular “charged the son”.
A true story
The real story is that of Benoît Cohen, with Fanny Ardant in the main role of the mother. Coming from the Parisian bourgeoisie, she decides to welcome an Afghan refugee into her home. Those around him are initially reluctant. “What this woman does is quite exceptional. She goes beyond apprehension to open her door”, says the director. The latter also says that his mother lived “an extraordinary story” with Mohammad.
