An original workshop was created in a nursing home in Breteuil, Eure. The principle: to revive the deep memory of seniors thanks to objects of their daily life from the past. #TheyHaveTheSolution

Reviving the deep memory of residents of an EHPAD is possible. In Breteuil-sur-Iton in the Eure, an original workshop has been created in a nursing home. Objective: reconnect, boost memory with simple objects, ordinary products, stimulate buried memories while socializing.

More than sixty objects from the museum’s collection “Life and trades of yesteryear” from the town of Breteuil were offered to residents of the establishment. MCoffee grinder, whisk, spring balance… All these products pass from hand to hand and produce an immediate effect, that of reviving memories, gestures. This initiative uses deep memory.

It’s like a musclesays Simon Ben Hini, occupational therapy student, creator of the memory workshop. If we stimulate our muscles, we will do things more easily: it’s the same with memory… the more you maintain it, the longer you keep it intact

This workshop made it possible to bring people together, to share convivial moments. A benevolent and reassuring framework has been set up to relax the atmosphere and to encourage participants to free themselves from the gaze of others and share memories.

“We are redoing the link between us… between them and us more exactly”, confesses Estelle Laubin, senior executive of the Breteuil-sur-Iton EHPAD. The elderly person has this essential role of transmission“. With this device, thehe goal is to share the knowledge of the oldest with the youngest.
