Thursday, February 9, three days after the deadly earthquake, the death toll now stands at more than 20,000. Rescuers are still hoping to find survivors, but time is running out. Report in the city of Hatay (Turkey).

The city ofHatay (Turkey) is in the dust and in its piles of collapsed buildings, Thursday, February 9. A man is angry. He claims he hears his brother under the rubble. The rescuers then begin to shout together: “If you can hear us, tap three times.” But, from the bottom of the hole, no breath of life arises. The furniture seems to have been like “clothes” revealing the bedrooms or living rooms. In the streets, it is not uncommon to come across men wearing wrapped bodies.

Some residents are leaving the city

At the foot of the ruins, a grandmother is waiting. “One of my sisters died with husband and children, now I hope for my second sister”she says. Some locals leave because there is nothing more to Hatay. Further on, rescuers call for silence in the street. A father wants to believe that his wife and children are still alive. Her youngest was only a few months old.
