Due to a growing number of road accidents involving seniors, the Bas-Rhin prefecture has decided to organize road safety courses specially intended for people aged 65 and over. An upgrade much appreciated by those interested. #TheyHaveTheSolution

They and they have had their driving license for 50, 60 years, or even more. Retirees who continue to drive, but some of whom are not always aware that their abilities are less and that certain rules have changed. This is the case of Dina, 89 years old on the clock, and who loves to drive, even if she has reduced her radius of action and is content with short trips around her home in Saverne. Confident, but she still registered for the refresher sessions organized by the Bas-Rhin prefecture, to refresh her knowledge, particularly in terms of security.

For this booster shot, they are fourteen that day, all aged 65 and over. On the menu, traffic signs, speed, the effects of alcohol, sources of distraction, whether auditory, visual, physical or cognitive. But also a very important chapter on taking medication and their effects which can be very dangerous while driving. And then there is this test on reaction time, which is very striking for the participants: “I realize that it takes extreme attention, and that in reality, I don’t have it all the time“, recognizes a participant aware of the dangers that appear with age.

Sessions that end with a test of about forty questions. Completely free courses provided by driving license inspectors and paid for by the Bas-Rhin prefecture. Those interested must register with their community of communes. in Saverne, the next ones will take place from September.
