in the Bas-Rhin, a hunting simulator on a giant screen to train hunters

Over the period 2021-2022 there were, according to figures made public at the beginning of September by the French Office for Biodiversity, 90 hunting accidents, including eight fatalities. Since then, there has been the death of a woman on October 16, hit by an accidental rifle shot by her own husband during a wild boar hunt… It is to avoid these tragedies as much as possible that the Departmental Federation hunters from Bas-Rhin manages the “Cyné’tir” near Strasbourg, a simulator reproducing the real conditions of driven hunting, with tlive ammunition irs.

>> Fight against hunting accidents: “There is no taboo to improve safety”

Three experienced hunters, fifties, octogenarians, are practicing: “We respect the shooting angles, explains one of them. We know that we can acquire our automatisms here. We haven’t hunted in a while. You have to get back in the game, that’s all. We know that there is a risk in hunting. The Cyné’tir is there to reduce it.”

The rules are very strict: everyone takes turns in the shooting range. The training lasts one hour. The rifles are powerful, they are those used for the beats. “We don’t learn to make boxes or stuff like thatexplains the Cyné’tir operator, Pierre Kuttler. We’re here to behave ethically.”

Beyond these training sessions, Frédéric Obry, president of the Federation of Bas-Rhin hunters, takes other initiatives: “Our federation has plans, in a very short period of time, to dress not only hunters, but also to dress nature users in fluorescent clothing. I think that above all, you have to be seen. We We have already had a certain number made for the use of mountain bikers and walkers as well.”

Cyné’tir training is not compulsory. But the Bas-Rhin Hunters’ Federation does not need to force the hand of members: for several weeks, all sessions have already been booked..
