In the arenas | The duty

Sport is a social fact where peer influence is exerted, and hockey is no exception. Hot fans, lowered to the level of primates, buy an admission ticket to a hockey game and, suddenly believing themselves absolved and freed from all ethics, from all respect, make cathartic and irreverent remarks. Welcome to the festival of intellectual emptiness!

The primate strips its personality and morality to the point of displaying its excrementous and fetid toxic personality. His racism towards players of color demotes him to the rank of prince of fools. This arouses indignation, nothing less!

The very regrettable events that happened in Gatineau during the 2021-2022 season are clearly unacceptable. A young black player was thrown to the ground in the locker room by one of his teammates — great team spirit, you might say! —, who then pressed a knee on his neck to reproduce the events surrounding the death of the American George Floyd. Of course, while insulting him as only imbeciles in arenas know how to do so well.

Should we hope that this kind of nonsense will one day stop? I am extremely pessimistic. Let’s forget the numerous investigative reports that have been produced and those that will be produced in the future, they will end up on the shelves. The problem is deeply rooted in the human mosaic, which produces a percentage of imbeciles, year after year. In addition, the supervision of young people by adults in hockey is lacking, and is very far from perfection.

If sport is health, says an old saying, it is certainly not mental health. Long live the arena mentality as an education!
