The confessions are strong. Vinicius Junior declared, Monday March 25, that his “desire to play diminished” over the racist insults suffered in Spain, during a press conference during which he burst into tears. The Brazilian winger spoke on the eve of the friendly match against Spain, organized in response to the segregation of which he has frequently been a victim since his arrival in Madrid in 2018.
“I’m sorry. I just want to play football. I just want to play, I want to do everything for my club and for my family and for black people to never suffer again“, said Vinicius Jr, very moved in front of the press.
“I’ve been seeing this for a long time, and each time it happens I feel sadder, and each time I want to play less“, he explained. “Since the first time I complained about racism in Spain, the situation has continued to get worse… They insult me because of the color of my skin so that I play less well on the pitch” , he said, adding that Spain is not “a racist country” but “that there are a lot of racists, a large number of them in the stadiums.”
“I will stay at the best club in the world, scoring as many goals as possible”, he nevertheless declared. Frequently targeted by opposing supporters, “Vini” has become a leading figure in the anti-racist fight on the other side of the Pyrenees.
