In Talence, Shaka Ponk and Skip the Use set fire to the ODP festival for the benefit of firefighter orphans

The two French rock groups opened the ball with two crazy concerts. The Œuvre des Pupilles festival continues near Bordeaux until Sunday June 16 in the city of Gironde.

It’s been nine years since the Oeuvre des Pupilles festival (ODP for those in the know) has paid tribute to the firefighters who perished in the flames.

Every year, musicians and groups participate in this major solidarity festival which aims to raise funds for orphans. Shaka Ponk and Skip the Use kicked off this ninth edition on Thursday June 14 in front of thousands of delighted spectators. “I come every year because the cause is beautiful and the artists are wonderful,” says a fan leaving the Shaka Ponk concert.

A few hours before, it was the Lille group Skip the Use who set the audience on fire. Led by the charismatic Mat Bastrard, the musicians offered their only date in France to the Talence audience. Un powerful, incandescent, completely rock moment to pay tribute to the firefighters and come to the aid of orphans.

Firefighters save people without asking the question of whether it’s a man, a woman, a Muslim, a Jew, a homosexual, a heterosexual, they go for it!

The festival also offers meetings with musicians, ODP organizes special moments with these pupils and the artists see values ​​to share. “Seeing a gallery of students who sing, dance and laugh throughout a concert even though they have lost a parent who came to throw themselves into a fire without thinking to save people.” tells moved Mat Bastard.

The main objective of the Œuvre des Pupilles is toprovide moral and financial support to all children whose firefighter parent (professional, volunteer or military) has died on or off duty. Among the spectators of the ODP festival, we meet fans of the groups but also many orphans. A bubble of oxygen for Apolline who lost her father in a fire. “As pupils, we look forward to this event, it’s a moment where we all get together and it’s great,” confides the young woman.

In nine years, the festival has won the hearts of the public. From 7,000 spectators at the start, today there are 35,000 coming to take part in the party. “It’s a great program and there is also an atmosphere, a soul, volunteer firefighters who are keen to welcome these festival-goers for this cause that we defend. The public feels good here,” assures Sébastien Lussagnet, the founder of ODP. Since the creation of the event, €300,000 has been donated to the association.

The ODP festival continues until June 16 in Talence.

On the program Saturday June 15: Louise Attaque, Hervé and Nuit Incolore. Charlotte Cardin, Eddy de Pretto Joseph Kamel Pierre de Maere and singer Stéphane will close the party on Sunday.
