We must be able to decide for ourselves and not leave this decision-making power to the great powers, even when it comes to our allies, because they are on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean.

The French head of state thus reaffirms that security in Europe is a matter for Europeans. The speech is daring among Swedish soldiers, who are impatient to join NATO.
