Hospital services are under pressure throughout France. While the summer promises to be complicated, the city of Strasbourg is developing an alternative. Less serious cases are referred to a nursing home.

In Strasbourg (Bas-Rhin), not all pain leads to emergencies. The on-call medical center is nearby. The standards of SOS Médecins and SAMU now redirect patients to this medical office depending on the severity of the cases, in order to relieve emergencies. Dr. Jacques Loichot, general practitioner, provides consultations.

He sees an average of six patients per hour. “There are things that couldn’t wait until the next day, (…) a urinary tract infection, a child who had a tick bite. (…) All those who came, addressed by the emergency room, did not go back to the emergency room “, assures Dr. Jacques Loichot. In total, about thirty general practitioners take turns to provide care. Eventually, the on-call medical center will be able to offer patients biological examinations and X-rays in the new civil hospital.
