In South Mayenne, CM1 and CM2 educated about the dangers on social networks

How to make young people aware of the risks on social networks? How to protect your data? How to talk about cyberbullying? In an attempt to answer these questions, in Renazé in southern Mayenne, the Center Social Douanier Rousseau, imagined a project of six sessions on the theme of social networks. Meetings to explain how the platforms work but also to understand the risks. These sessions have been designed for two classes of students, in CM1 and CM2, from the Ecole Ernest Guillard.

Prevent dangers earlier

After a first session, a prevention animation was organized, Tuesday, May 10, with two gendarmes from Craon. Protection of personal data, data exchanges, cyberbullying, pedocrime and an awareness video, many topics were mentioned simply to raise awareness among students. Because now it’s important to talk about it sooner “A few years ago, we could afford to do this prevention from college level, or even at the end of college, in 4th, 3rd, explains Guillaume Nicolas_. Today, we can clearly see that prevention is perfectly adapted from the CM1 classes, it is even strongly recommended. And the important thing for children is to talk to their loved ones. “It’s essential to talk about the things that disturb them, which may seem shocking. The key is really communication.”_

This session is part of a project of six meetings organized by the Center Social Douanier Rousseau. “At first, we tried to question them on “What is a social network?”, says a center facilitator. And the following sessions, the idea is to really discuss with them, on what they can publish, what they have the right to do or not to do. In subsequent sessions, fake news, the use of screens and games will be discussed. The next meeting on cyberbullying will take place on May 17 and at the end of the project, a forum theater is organized on Friday June 17 with the students and their parents. A time will be offered to parents of young people afterwards.
