The agreement was signed Tuesday at MIPTV in Cannes, this major annual market for television programs. This is a 30and adaptation for A boy a girl (Love Bugsin English).

This international success continues to amaze Guy A. Lepage. Reached by phone, the author, host, producer remembered the modest ambitions he had for the show before it went on the air.

“At first, we weren’t even sure it was for catch outside the Plateau Mont-Royal! I had a good feeling that the show would be well done, but if someone had told me that it would go around the world, I would never have believed it. »

Title Tomas & Diana, the Slovak version will consist of 26 episodes of 22 minutes. Filming will start this summer in Slovakia. The series will then be broadcast on TV JOJ, a private general-interest channel.

Erika Tóthová, head of acquisitions at Slovenská Produkčná, the production company that will handle the adaptation, recognized herself in the story brought to Quebec by Guy A. Lepage and Sylvie Léonard, said Monic Lamoureux, co-president of Avanti Distributions Ciné Vidéo, the Quebec company responsible for exporting the popular format.

“Life as a couple is universal and timeless,” she said in an interview from Cannes.

A quarter of a century later

This signature comes a few weeks before the 25and birthdayA boy a girl. The sketch comedy actually aired on Radio-Canada on 1er May 1997.

Slovakia joins the list of countries that have adapted A boy a girl. This list includes Spain, Germany, Russia, Ukraine, Sweden, Italy, Greece and – of course – France.

“I still can’t believe it,” said Guy A. Lepage. I am super happy and above all, very proud. »

Evidence of the continued success ofA boy a girl abroad, its French version, with Jean Dujardin and Alexandra Lamy, enjoys an almost unshakable popularity rating. According to an Ipsos-Sopra Steria survey commissioned by Cable Weekly in 2020, comedy rose to 3and rank in the list of favorite French series of the last 30 years, behind The casa de papel and Game Of Thronesbut ahead of American megahits like Friends, Grey’s Anatomy and Desperate Housewives.

A boy a girl remains the most suitable scripted fiction format in the world, added Monic Lamoureux. For 25 years, it has been constant. We never had a calm. There is always interest. »
