Clashes broke out in Shanghai between the police and residents exasperated by long and strict confinement. Refueling becomes a problem for some.

After about a month of an extremely harsh lockdown in Shanghai, people started to revolt. The 25 million inhabitants face food shortages and some are evicted by the authorities who requisition buildings to create quarantine centers, where positive people are forced to crowd in Spartan conditions. Despite censorship, images of scuffles between exasperated residents and the police have been broadcast on the Internet.

Most of the daily supply is provided by “kuaidi”. Scooter delivery men authorized to circulate to bring basic necessities to confined Shanghainese. But they have to test negative for that. Their fear of contamination is therefore such that many prefer to sleep under bridges rather than risk contracting the virus at home. President Xi Jinping persists in his strategy “zero Covid”. About 40 million Chinese over the age of 60 are not vaccinated.
