Thursday, April 14, residents of the city of Shanghai, China, have been confined for more than two weeks. Faced with severe repression by the authorities, they protest against this confinement.

The 25 million inhabitants of Shanghai are still confined, Thursday April 14. Some are asking for food, others are crying out in frustration. “We don’t know how long the confinement will last”, reports a man, who films with his laptop. In the sky, drones call residents to order. “Be careful to control your desires for freedom”, they say. Those who leave are violently beaten up by the Chinese authorities.

The public and voluntary services that have to feed the population are overwhelmed. The inhabitants are hungry, they demand food. Shanghainese are allowed to go outside to get tested. If they are positive, they are sometimes forcibly isolated. Patients fear staying in quarantine centres. There they live in basic conditions, with a light constantly on. In China, 23 other cities are confined, representing 200 million inhabitants.
