Tensions in Senegal after the postponement of the presidential election, scheduled for the end of February, to December 15. A postponement voted on Monday, without the opposition deputies, excluded from the hemicycle by the gendarmerie. The police presence is reinforced around strategic places in Dakar, the capital, although there have been no new demonstrations or excesses. The fact remains that President Macky Sall’s decision continues to cause a lot of reaction and outrage the opposition, which is struggling to find a strategy.
The union in the presidential camp is also under attack. Some supporters are letting go of the president and making it known. There are those who are defecting within the Senegalese executive, with two resignations from those close to the head of state. After the Secretary General of the Government, Minister of State Awa Marie Coll Seck chose to leave her position. “I think that in line with her personal convictions, her values and her ethics, she has a little difficulty accepting the latest decisions of the head of state,” reacts his communications advisor, Boubacar Sow.
“Perhaps other resignations will follow”
Mamoudou Ibra Kane is a supporter of Amadou Ba, the majority candidate, designated to succeed Macky Sall. “I have the feeling that there is a betrayal, a plot, which is being hatched by certain circles of power,” he insists, sternly. His candidate did not comment on the postponement of the vote, Amadou Ba is even still Prime Minister. “Perhaps other resignations will follow, adds Mamoudou Ibra Kanebut the one that is most awaited is that of the President of the Republic, because he will no longer have legitimacy.”
“Let him come to his senses! The Senegalese people must not give up on the matter as well.”

On national television news, there is no question of discussing these disagreements, but a special program with a minister called to defend the postponement of the vote, Ismaïla Madior Fall. “The President of the Republic is not at the origin of this postponement, he is not the author, the initiator or the inspiration, he insists. There are a set of ingredients capable of discrediting the electoral process which means that we could have ended up in a situation where the verdict resulting from the ballot boxes was a contested verdict. We know that litigation during the electoral process is a conflict-provoking factor. This could go wrong and lead to a crisis which could affect the political stability of Senegal.”
There remains one last step for President Macky Sall, the promulgation of this law which will extend his mandate for one year, despite the doubts and appeals in his own majority.
