Will a magic formula be able to make him start again? In Scotland, the Jacobite Steam Train, nicknamed “The Harry Potter Train” due to its presence under the name “Hogwarts Express” in the film adaptation of JK Rowling’s saga, has been stopped since Wednesday March 20 and until further notice, franceinfo learned from the railway company, West Coast Railways (WCR). This suspension was decided for security reasons.

The British rail watchdog requires additional safety systems to be installed on this train to prevent people from falling through doors or windows when the train is in motion. The company which operates this steam train benefited from an exemption in past years.

This year, the railway company has “applied to the railway governing body, ORR (Office of Rail and Road), for a short-term certificate of exemption pending a full review. ORR has refused to issue this certificate and will consider the request in its entirety, but not sure how long it will take”, explains the WCR in a letter sent to customers. She considers the cost of the work, around 8 million euros, too high, and assures that full refunds will be granted to affected travelers.
