Nadine Bertulessi is one of those unique artists for whom art cures many ailments. This creative ferment is the fruit of a long inner process. Victim of domestic violence for six years, by the father of her first child, Nadine drew within herself the strength to overcome her pain and find the path to forgiveness. Forty years after these ordeals, she created a polyptych composed of five paintings, each symbolizing a stage of her journey, from suffering to redemption.

Lively, sometimes explosive, Nadine Bertulessi’s paintings capture the invisible and invite viewers to lose themselves in their depth. Now in love and living in the countryside in Savoie with Bernard, a long-time friend whom she met by chance, Nadine is currently exhibiting twenty-five of her paintings at the casino. Large Circle from Aix-les-Bains until February 9.

Art as therapy

Nadine Bertulessi has been painting since the age of 15. Self-taught, she worked figuratively for a long time, experimenting with all kinds of techniques, charcoal drawing, watercolor, acrylic, oil, before becoming an abstract painter, desperately following her intuition. “When I paint, I don’t think, it can seem strange and yet, it’s real: my knife moves spontaneously. Even if sometimes it crashes, it’s normal. I feel free”she confides, illustrating the spontaneous and liberating process that characterizes her art.

Nadine works with pure pigments, drawing inspiration from the unexpected to create unique and vibrant works. On her table, she places her ingredients like a seasoned cook: “I always have to have everything within reach so as not to be blocked. When creation is pure, it comes out.”
