In Saint-Vincent-de-Paul, a reception center rehabilitated in ten days to house 54 Ukrainians

Since the start of the war in Ukraine, the Landes department has hosted more than 200 Ukrainians, according to figures from the Prefecture. Some are housed by individuals, friends, others by state services. On the night of Friday to Saturday March 19, 2022, 54 Ukrainian civilians fleeing the war arrived by bus at the Berceau de Saint-Vincent-de-Paul (Landes). The bus came from Paris. Inside, Tatyana, who came to France to flee the hell of his city, Zaporizhia.

“My city is starting to be bombed, with my daughter we ran off to take a train. We arrived in Paris, then a bus took us here”says Tatyana, her features drawn. “We are housed, fed, there are games for the children. We visited Dax, it’s beautiful. Everything is fine, it’s wonderful”rejoices this Ukrainian lawyer.

These emergency accommodations for Ukrainians have been refurbished by the Landes Red Cross in just ten days, at the request of the Prefecture. “We cleaned everything, put it back in technical function, arranged, fitted out the rooms. They have available to the common areas, refectory and individual rooms, individual toilets”explains Eric Farret of the Landes Red Cross, who supervised the site. Forty new Ukrainians arrive next week at the Berceau de Saint-Vincent-de-Paul.
