A thousand knitters made a scarf measuring 3,356 meters, the exact length of the longest French bridge, the Saint-Nazaire bridge. This achievement is part of the Tricothon initiative, a project created in favor of the Telethon. #IlsOntLaSolution

For almost two years, more than a thousand volunteers from all over France have had fun knitting 9,590 rectangles. The objective: to make a giant scarf as part of the Tricothon in order to collect donations for the Telethon, as well as to cover the entire Saint-Nazaire bridge, a distance of 3,356 meters.

After many hours of knitting, we had to put it all together. In total, 23 reels of 150 meters each weighing 50 kg were transported and then deployed on the Saint-Nazaire bridge thanks to the 1,500 volunteers present on Sunday, October 24, 2021. The opportunity for these people to make a nice gesture and to see and finally the accomplishment of their work. “I came to knitting every Friday at the reception of the retirement home with other people, then if I wanted, I could continue in the evening at home. And so on. It was really a sensational experience”, rejoices Ginette, knitter at the retirement home Les Résidentiels.

Thanks to this colossal knitting, the many participants hope to collect 45,000 euros in donations in favor of research against myopathies for the AFM Telethon. But this is not the only usefulness of this initiative. Because, the rectangles of the scarf will be reshaped into 400 covers. They will be donated to charities.
