In Saint-Lizier (Ariège), the Palais des Evêques dreams of becoming a major tourist attraction

It is one of the jewels of Ariège, 1h15 by road from Toulouse. The department took over the lease of this site a little over two years ago and a major rehabilitation has been launched to turn it into a tourist residence. The construction site, which costs nearly 4 million euros, is still in progress and will be completed in two years, but some buildings are ready and welcome tourists.

Spa, seminar rooms… And breathtaking views of the Pyrenees

56 accommodations are available today. Eventually, 81 accommodations will be created, with a breathtaking view of the Pyrenees chain. A key project for the attractiveness of Couserans says the president of the departmental council Christine Téqui: _”_Saint-Lizier is what for years has unfortunately been called the sleeping beauty. Today, the residence is running well. There is a private hotel which had 50 rooms in Saint-Girons which has closed, which allows us to take over. We are also at the heart of an exceptional heritage.”

Good numbers to start with

15,000 people were able to take advantage of the premises which will be open for the moment over a period from May to October. “The first year was complex because of the Covid, this second year _we are within our objectives with an occupancy rate of 60%. Here, we are on a three-star residence but the objective is to provide four-star services”_details Pierre Bournais, General Manager of Terres de France, site manager.

The palace grounds“, this is the name of the tourist residence, is recruiting. In particular looking for receptionists and cleaning ladies.
