In Russia, a deputy defense minister was arrested for alleged corruption

The Russian Investigative Committee announced on Tuesday that Timur Ivanov is suspected of having accepted a bribe.

A Russian Deputy Defense Minister, Timur Ivanov, was arrested for alleged corruption, the Russian Investigative Committee announced on Tuesday April 23. “He is suspected of having committed a crime according to section 6 of article 290 of the Penal Code (accepting a bribe)”, specified the Committee on Telegram. The offense is punishable by a large fine or a prison sentence of more than ten years, depending on the circumstances. The deputy minister is already subject to sanctions by the European Union as a senior Defense Ministry official responsible for the construction of military installations.

Furthermore, the Anti-Corruption Foundation, created by the late opposition leader Alexei Navalny, published an investigation into Timur Ivanov in 2022. She assured that the deputy minister supervised and profited from construction projects in Mariupol, Ukraine. Still according to the organization’s investigation, banned in Russia for “extremism”the minister divorced his wife to allow him to circumvent European Union sanctions. “Today is a good day”reacted Maria Pevchikh, head of investigations at the Foundation, on social networks.
