Four Central European countries are on flood alert due to the depression named Boris: Poland, Austria, Romania and the Czech Republic. Four people have lost their lives, swept away by the floods.

Entire villages submerged, farmland submerged. In Galati County (Romania), on Saturday, September 14, only the roofs of the houses are still visible. At least 149 municipalities have been devastated by the floods, and more than 5,000 houses have been destroyed. Residents are trying to save what they can. In a flooded street, they see the damage, in shock.

Four people were found dead by Romanian rescue workers. Still working, they are evacuating residents who are leaving with their personal belongings. In the Czech Republic, more than 180 patients from a hospital in Brno, the country’s second city, have been urgently transferred. Caregivers are trying to protect the equipment by taking it upstairs. In a village in the north of the country, excavators are clearing stones carried by the flood. In Poland, rescue services are monitoring the situation closely. A peak in precipitation is expected overnight.
