A new, stricter version of the Nutri-Score will be gradually implemented from January 1, 2024. This score displayed on the packaging of food products is not mandatory. Several brands are therefore considering removing it so as not to display declining ratings.

A new, stricter version of the Nutri-Score will be gradually implemented from January 1, 2024. It will be less tolerant with sugar and salt and more demanding with fiber and proteins. Many processed products will see their rating drop, particularly brands of cereals, often considered too sweet. Serge Hercberg, professor of nutrition at Sorbonne Paris Nord University, recalls that “the Nutri-Score is not obligatory”.

The Bjorg brand replaces it with the “Planet-Score”

Some brands take advantage of the fact that the Nutri-Score is not mandatory, and born do not display it on their products. Others go even further. With the new version, the plant-based drinks of the famous Bjorg brand should move from grade “A” or “B” to “D” or “E”, but most consumers will know nothing about it, because the group has removed the Nutri-Score of its packaging a few weeks ago, and intends to replace it with the “Planet-Score”. This defection could be the first of a long list. Several brands are considering they also remove the Nutri-Score so as not to see their scores degraded.
