A Moscow court sentenced a student to 10 days in prison who renamed his Wi-Fi network “Slava Ukraine”, the rallying cry of Kyiv’s forces, the Russian news agency Ria-Novosti reported on Saturday.
By changing the pre-installed name of his Wi-Fi router to “Slava Ukraine!”, this Moscow State University student “propagandas the slogan of Ukrainian nationalists,” the court assured in its cited decision by Ria-Novosti.
He was found guilty of “public demonstration of Nazi symbolism (…) or symbols of extremist organizations” and his Wi-Fi router was confiscated, this source specifies.
A police officer had previously reported this network with a name deemed problematic, according to the case file consulted by Ria-Novosti.
Since the large-scale attack on Kyiv at the end of February 2022, the Russian authorities have repressed any public criticism of the Kremlin offensive or support for the Ukrainian forces with thousands of fines and heavy prison sentences.
