In Pont-Scorff, the animal park Les Terres de Nataé collects Christmas trees for the animals

First day of the operation and the small container in front of the entrance to the animal park Les Terres de Nataé in Pont-Scorff is already full. David, from the technical department, is in charge of the daily harvest. He arrives on a small tractor to collect the conifers: “We have five today, it’s already quite a bit and then it’s encouraging for the future”, he admits. He takes the trees for a few days of quarantine and they will then be used by the vet and caregivers to develop entertainment for the animals in the park.

A dual approach

Trees will be used in different forms: “They can be set up whole in the enclosures so that the animals can scratch and scratch their nails, the thorns will be collected in small bags so that they can smell them. It is a bit like an advent calendar. . Every day they will have a stimulating little surprise “, details Joan Ferri-Pisani, park veterinarian. The goal ? Enrich the environment of animals kept in captivity. The caregiver can already imagine filming her little ones when they discover their gifts: “Our snow leopard, Kedar loves tree trunks. I’m sure she’ll have fun with it.”, is Joan having fun?

The initiative seems to be working well. Pauline heard about it on social networks and that’s good because she wants to get rid of her Christmas tree this week: “Usually I throw it away so it’s good to be able to contribute to this initiative and to know that the animals will be able to benefit from it.” You can drop off your tree every day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. until January 16.
