In Poitiers, in Vienne, the university partly finances free dental consultations for students.
In Poitiers (Vienne), since the start of the school year, a dentist has devoted half a day per week to students. A Japanese student managed to get a free appointment in less than a week. “She still has big problems, I’m not sure she would be taken into private practice so quickly.“, comments Catherine Jazat, retired dental surgeon, member of Aosis. Vienne has 42 dentists per 100,000 inhabitants, compared to 64 nationally.
Assistance from the primary health insurance fund
Some students are unable to access appointments quickly. This is the case of Emerick Siméon, a master’s student. A scholarship holder, he does not have mutual insurance. With less than 100 euros per month to live on, the free consultations are a godsend for him. These consultations are financed by the university, which pays the two retired dentists and invests more than 60,000 euros in the practice, helped by the primary health insurance fund.
