IN PICTURES – The world championship in throwing mats took place this Sunday in the Saint-Roch district of Nice

Throw the mat – or palhasso! This Sunday took place on the Place de l’Eglise Saint-Roch, in Nice, the 33rd world championship in this very Nice discipline. With the straw man, a Carnival character, who must be sent as far as possible using a sheet.

In teams of 2, representing an existing or imaginary country, about thirty participants from 4 to 50 years old happily clashed. This world championship, which mainly brings together residents of the district, is organized by the Nissa Pantai association. It is a way to launch the Carnival festivities.

A record broken this Sunday, in the teenage category: 11 meters! The previous record was 9.2 meters. For the record among adults, it will not fall any time soon: the more than 15 meters recorded in 2007 were the result of a throw made… by highly trained firefighters.
