During the pandemic, Mélanie Fortin and her spouse, Éric Dion, adopted 15 alpacas from a lady who was parting with them. Both on sabbaticals, they had the time and energy to redevelop their land in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu to provide these animals with a space to thrive. Over the months, other members joined their herd. “The alpaca is very sensitive to humans, very open, very available,” says Mélanie Fortin, who also has the nickname Mam’Alpaga on the farm.
