IN PICTURES – Several hundred athletes and spectators gathered at Stade Manuela Montebrun in Laval

The atmosphere was festive this Sunday, May 8 at the Stade Manuela Montebrun in Laval: several hundred athletes from the region gathered for the first day of the Interclubs, a competition between different athletics clubs. Among the headliners of this day, Sounkamba Sylla, licensed at Laval Agglo Athlé 53 and selected last summer for the Tokyo Olympics, just like Amandine Brossier, specialist in the 400m and licensed at the SCO in Angers. Three Mayenne clubs participated this Sunday, May 8 in this first day of Interclubs. The Entente Athlétique Nord-Mayenne finished on the top step of the podium with 45,256 points, ahead of the Saint-Barthélemy d’Angers athletics club (41,506 points) and Laval Agglo Athlé 53 (38,779 points). Upac de Château-Gontier finished in sixth place with 36,658 points.

A 200m record for Laval’s Sounkamba Sylla

The hundreds of spectators gathered at the Manuela Montebrun stadium were able to admire a high level competition, including a series of 200m in which Sounkamba Sylla and Amandine Brossier ran, both selected for the Tokyo Olympics. The Lavalloise Sounkamba Sylla even broke her record over the distance, with a stopwatch of 23”9.

Among the moments expected this Sunday, May 8, there was also the participation of Laura Salin-Eyike, titled in high jump at the last French senior indoor championships. The athlete from the Entente Athlétique Nord-Mayenne tried to pass the bar of 1m86 to the applause of the public, but she finally settled for a bar of 1m80.

The Olympic champion, Manuela Montebrun, who also gave her name to the Aubépin stadium in Laval, was also present: the former hammer thrower took part in the shot put this Sunday with a throw of 9m38.

All the athletics clubs in the region will meet for the second round of Interclubs, the weekend of May 21 and 22.
