This is the new cauldron of JS Cherbourg Handball. The Jean-Jaurès complex, in Equeurdreville-Hainneville, will host the Proligue club for the next three seasons, while work is being carried out at Chantereyne. The room was inaugurated this Tuesday, September 13, after eight months of work of renovation.
A capacity of 1,975 seats
Gymnasium, dojo, multipurpose room, locker rooms and toilets have been renovated to a total cost of 2.8 million euros. Among the works carried out, the frame of the handball hall was consolidated, the insulation of the building redone and the fire safety system brought into compliance. Some work, in particular painting, remains to be done, but the town hall of Cherbourg-en-Cotentin ensures that everything is ready to host the first home match of the JSC against Valence, this Friday, September 16.
The new club room has a capacity of 1,975 seatsabout 150 less than the Chantereyne room. “But the VIP stand is wider. The lighting and sound are also better”, assures Benoît Arrivé, the mayor of Cherbourg-en-Cotentin. The VIP area is located in the “petit Jaurès” and the refreshments are installed in chalets in the rear car park.
Other sports clubs will benefit from this renovated complex
The multipurpose room has been partly transformed into a weights room for the JS Cherbourg team. After three years, it will again become a multipurpose room, open to all associations. Besides, the Jean-Jaurès complex is not not reserved for JS Cherbourg. The dojo will be used in particular by martial arts and Aikido clubs, and certain slots will be reserved for schools.
The volleyball, basketball and roller derby clubs will return to the Jaurès room at the end of the three years. In the meantime, they are welcomed in other rooms in the city.
Free shuttles on game nights
The Jaurès complex does not benefit from large car parks, as is the case for Chantereyne. It is nevertheless possible to park around the venue, in the Super U, L’Agora or company car parks.
The city of Cherbourg-en-Cotentin is also setting up free shuttlesevery game night. Three buses will thus provide shuttles between the Hôtel de Ville, Place de la République, and the “8 mai” stop, in Equeurdreville-Hainneville, with a stop at the René Le Bas space. They will leave every ten minutes, between 7:10 p.m. and 8 p.m. for the outward journey, and between 10:10 p.m. and 11 p.m. for the return.
